Build a Delish Bowl

This isn’t like any recipe I’ve written before and that’s because there are so many ways to build a delish bowl. But, here are the main components and the principles behind a delish bowl.

 1. A grain or bean (could be quinoa, rice,

farro, millet, lentils, black beans,       kidney beans, etc.)

 2. One or two roasted or sauteed vegetables. Think beets, pumpkin, broccoli, parsnips, cauliflower, asparagus, mushrooms and, and, and.

 3. One or two raw components. Cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, radishes, leafy greeeeens!

6. Caramelized onions or leeks to top it off are always a nice touch.

 5. Something creamy like avocado or feta cheese or hummus.

 4. A crunchy component like nuts and or seeds.

7. Fresh herbs! Basil, parsley, cilantro, thyme, they will all spice up your delish bowl.

8. Finally, a drizzle of olive oil and lemon juice or vinegar (or just the oil) and some salt and pepper to your liking.

9. Your Delish Bowl

So, the gist of it is you add:

  1. grain/bean (sometimes both)

  2. something cooked

  3. something raw

  4. something crunchy

  5. something creamy

  6. something a bit sweet

  7. fresh herbs

  8. oil and lemon juice or vinegar, salt and pepper

  9. Optional extras: medium boiled egg, crumbled sausage, bacon, seasoned ground beef

Add or omit whatever you like. Once you got your base down, you'll be confident to start filling your bowls, making efficient use of leftovers, and getting a full belly of delicious and nutritious food. Prepare for a happy belly :)
